Two week Turn Around
When I was first contacted by Dennis Williams he was looking at a deadline. They were launching the fundraising campaign for the community center in two weeks and they needed a way to help pitch the community center to investors in an easily shareable but still impactful way.
Dennis was looking for a video, but he had no idea where to even start. So I asked him what I ask most of my clients. To tell me about the project in one minute. That is a trick I have learned to get people to tell me exactly what they find important about their project. After our conversation I gave him some parameters to help us get a script together.
“He helped us craft and form our story.”
— Dennis R. Williams / Project lead
We needed 6 interviews
To really share the need the community center would be facilitating Dennis had lined up 7 interviews. Each one sharing a different aspect of the story for the Faith Memorial Community Center.
Together we worked on an outline for each person, about 100 words each to keep everyone on track with the overall storyline. We asked a few questions as we went along and expanded on some of the ideas when we filmed.
While in the editing process, the order of the interviews were shuffled around until I made the decision to cut one of the interviews. The final video is actually made of just 6 interviews.

Drone and compositing.
After filming and editing the interviews, our storyline was more or less locked. I made an appointment to come film B-roll as well as drone shots. I asked for as much art work and drawings that was produced up to that point of the community center. I then took those 2D drawings and composited them into drone footage I took while on my follow up filming.
This was something I was not asked for in the original conversation to make this video, however it was the shot that made the biggest impact on Dennis when we spoke on the phone. To see the plans come to life on their lot was the visual piece he needed to sell this project.
This is the result.
The Final Product
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
