Interviews and stories

Bread and Butter

Interviews are what I do best. From the lighting, audio, and video work involved to the ability to ask questions. Question asking is the skill that sets things apart. My job is to find the bruise and press on it. In the setting of a church service we are always strapped for time. So I typically have to condense a 45 minuet interview down to 2-3 minuets tops. Because of that these stories get told in the edit.

B-roll is the special sauce

When filming an interview. The portion of the actual interview is called “A-Roll” which is your voice and driver for the story. The clips showing up that glue the story together are called “B-Roll” and that is what separates an interview. The rule of thumb for this is that if you say it you show it. If they speak of something happening at their house, you film them at their house. It adds a day or two extra of shooting time but it is worth the extra effort because it elevates the video quality.

On location

Most of the videos shown are in a “studio” setting however there is something to filming on location. The comfort level of those being interviewed is always higher when filmed on their home turf. However you have to not be afraid to move some furniture around to make it happen.

Other Projects
